An Intimate Dinner W/ Laurent Ponsot @ The Principal....
I have very rarely met (in fact, only once before) a Frenchman who can do a good, let alone perfect, French-Canadian accent as can Laurent Ponsot.
At our dinner last night, hosted by Altaya's Paolo Pong & The Confrererie des Chevaliers du Tastevin, it turned out, however, that it is not the only way that the legendary Mr. Ponsot can entertain. What a pleasant evening it was as he regaled us with tales of his many trips around the world and historical tidbits of Burgundy to put his wines in their proper perspective.
And I do not have to write how wonderful the wines were, you most likely have heard from others before and this would be rubbing it in...
But I want to say that the experience of his Domaine Ponsot Clos De La Roche Grand Cru 2003 (magnum) was stunning taking me completely by surprise...
Beautiful garnet color w/ sediments. A indiscripdible nose. Transporting me away from the table at a place unknown, yet feeling peace, joy, and light. Diabolical bouquet w/ still incredibly deep, luxurious, yet tender, and sumptuous aromas of baked cherries & raspberries & strawberries w/ beautifully interwoven notes of exotic spices & sandalwood. Wonderful travel in time & in space. A caressingly silky palate, savoury, round & tender. Beautiful finish all in exoticism & fantasies...
An exquisite beauty & a delightful way to end a most pleasant evening...
