Sad News... Bernhard Huber "Godfather of German Pinot" passed...

Ever since I visited Kaiserstuhl 3 years ago to taste some German Pinot Noir, I have been in love w/ the region.

I remember meeting Mr. Huber early last fall @ a wine festival in his home village of Malterdingen in South-West German region of Baden. I was told he had a cancer & most likely he would not be there to see us... Yet, he was there, at his winery stand greeting everyone as if he was 20 years younger. What energy he emanated throughout our conversation! A man truly in love with what he was doing & completely confident of the potential & the quality of Pinot Noir in the region.

His was splendid. Looking at my notes, for the Alte Reben 2010. Elegant yet powerful. Delicate yet assertive. Tense & Silky. W/ lovely red fruits of the forest & beautiful perfume of fresh violets & roses w/ a touch of herbs. Lovely savoury & intense finish.

A wine to keep for a while. A wine to share w/ good friends & talk about how life can be full of amazing things to share!
